Kangaroo Pizza

After sitting and drinking my fresh squeezed orange juice in the Crystal Café Restaurant this morning, Lianne, Sarah, Kara and I took a stroll around the apartment and took some lovely photos of the neighborhood!  There were even these wacky birds that looked like crosses between crows and penguins.  I’ll have to do some research and figure out what they are!

We went back upstairs, changed and dropped off our things, and then headed to the Australian Hotel for the lunch courtesy of CAPA.  I did try a small piece of kangaroo with a dried cranberry – I’m not sure how I felt about it.  There was also a pumpkin pizza, which was amazing, and a plain margherita pizza.  From lunch, some of up headed to a lookout point that faced the opera house and we got some really great photos!  We walked along the end of the harbor bridge and across the harbor before going down an elevator to Circular Quay (pronounced “key”, I now know).  The quay is beautiful!  There are clothing boutiques and restaurants along the harbor.  I bought some postcards (keep an eye out, mom!) and we looked at some opals and aboriginal artwork.  Lianne and I walked around the opera house and sat overlooking the bridge before deciding to head back for the others, who went on a jet boating ride through the harbor.  We met up with Kate and went into a chocolate shop and restaurant, where I indulged in a delicious hot chocolate/mocha drink with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.

The Vivid Sydney festival started tonight.  Along the harbor, we saw some of the light sculptures and could see some people setting up for the opening event.  We’ll probably go back one evening this weekend and also go on a walking tour of The Rocks.  The Paddington Market is open tomorrow, and we’re planning on doing that in the morning.  I hope they have some artisan pieces, because I really want to bring something like that home.  I saw some small, hand-painted didgeridoos on the quay for $50, but I’m guessing I’ll get a better deal at one of the markets.  I’m really interested in learning a little more about the meaning behind didgeridoos and other forms of aboriginal art.  I’ll have to look into it when I have a strong internet connection!  I could also go the old-fashioned route and actually ask someone about them.  Possibly both.

I’ve also been feeling feverish all day.  I should’ve seen this coming.  I’ve had a sore throat since I’ve arrived.  Kara and I chatted in the hot tub when we returned to the apartment, and I’m feeling a bit better.  I was much more comfortable in there than I would’ve been outside or in the air conditioning!  I didn’t let my ailment ruin the day, but I sure do hope that I’m feeling better tomorrow!

Please leave comments!  I’d love to know that people are actually reading these!  Looking forward to writing again -
